Lithuania's national speed monitoring program in full swing

Lithuania's largest national program for speed monitoring was commissioned into operation in December 2009. Completion took less than 15 months

In Lithuania approx. 750 people die every year in traffic accidents and around 8,000 are injured on the country's roads. 150 speed monitoring systems from the Jenoptik Traffic Solutions division are now making their contribution towards reducing the number of accidents in Lithuania. The images created by the digital camera system show the vehicle, registration number as well as the driver and also record the speed, date and time, location and direction of travel. In this context the extremely precise radar sensor readings ensure that the speed is calculated properly. Breaches of the speed limits are automatically transmitted using stateoftheart, wireless communication technology to the processing center of the Lithuanian Police where they are processed at 20 workstations with the help of highly efficient software modules from Jenoptik. In order to minimize the damage caused by vandalism the equipment, which is often located in deserted areas, is fitted with electronic security systems that immediately report any incidents to the police.

The ten year full service agreement of the Jenoptik partners Viltechna UAB and Fima UAB covers the operation of the systems including service and maintenance as well as securing the data transfer from the roadside to the police control center. Thanks to its comprehensive portfolio of technology and services Jenoptik is making its contribution towards the success of the project.

Jenoptik has already maintained a presence in Lithuania for several years through its Traffic Solutions division. Earlier generations of stationary and mobile systems as well as laser systems for mobile traffic monitoring, amongst other things, have already been in use in the country. This project has also enabled the Thuringiabased optoelectronics group to continue expanding its position in Eastern Europe as a leading provider of stateoftheart monitoring systems.
