IHK-Hauptgeschäftsführer Hubertus Hille ergänzt: "Schon lange arbeiten wir mit unseren Partnern an einer Stärkung des Rheinlandes. National und international können wir im Standortwettbewerb künftig nur bestehen, indem wir unsere Kräfte in diesem verflochtenen Ballungsraum Rheinland bündeln."
Im Rahmen des gestrigen Frühjahrsempfangs der Regionen in Nordrhein-Westfalen hatte der Chef der Staatskanzlei, Franz-Josef Lersch-Mense, angekündigt, dass der künftige NRW-Landesentwicklungsplan unter anderem ein Bekenntnis zur Metropolregionen Rheinland enthalte - bisher hatte die Landesregierung dieses klare Bekenntnis zum Rheinland vermieden.
Nach Ansicht der IHK macht es Sinn, in vielen Fragen das Rheinland als Region zu stärken, anstatt auf kommunaler Eben zu verharren. Bürger und Unternehmen profitieren von regional abgestimmten Konzepten, z. B. bei den Themen Verkehr, Gewerbeflächen oder Standortmarketing.
Im vergangenen Jahr hatte die Landesregierung den ersten Entwurf eines neuen Landesentwicklungsplanes vorgelegt und um Stellungnahmen gebeten. Unter den weit mehr als 1.400 Kommentierungen fanden sich zahlreiche, die eine Stärkung des Rheinlandes als Metropolregion anregten. "Wir freuen uns, dass die Landesregierung diesem Ansinnen aus dem Rheinland nun doch folgen möchte. Ein starkes Rheinland bringt schließlich das ganze Land voran", freuen sich Grießl und Hille entsprechend über diesen Beratungserfolg.
