Das Serial Digital Interface (SDI) kommt in erster Linie in den Bereichen von professionellen Filmstudios und von Fernsehanstalten zum Einsatz.

Die Video/Audio Capture Card HDC-502E von ICP Deutschland verfügt mit ihrer Real-Time H.264 Aufnahme über einen entscheidenden Vorteil. Zwei 3G-SDI Signale können durch die PCIe Einsteckkarte geschleift und gleichzeitig mit einer Auflösung von 1080p HD bei 60Hz komprimiert und aufgezeichnet werden. Durch die sofortige Codierung spart der Anwender erhebliche Festplattenkapazitäten ein, die ansonsten für nicht komprimierte Aufnahmen notwendig wären. Die Audio Signale werden nach MPEG-1 Audio Layer 2 verarbeitet. Im Lieferumfang der HDC-502E Video/Audio Capture Card sind Treiber für Windows® XP, 7 und Linux Fendora 16 sowie ein SDK für Entwickler enthalten. In Anwendungen mit vielen SDI Signalen können auch mehrere Capture Cards in einem System eingesetzt werden.
