New in the Jakoparts range: Shock absorbers

Perfect-fit quality shock absorbers from the specialists

(PresseBox) (Heusenstamm, )
Shock absorbers have an important job to do: They cushion road surface jolts and ensure the necessary road holding in every driving situation. Shock absorbers dampen body vibration more quickly and so enhance both safety and ride comfort. Together with the coil springs they form the link between the wheel suspension and the body. An important vehicle component which ideally complements the previous range of spare parts in addition to suspension strut bearings and coil springs. Thanks to exact parts assignment, the shock absorbers available from the Jakoparts range are a precise fit and a perfect match for each particular vehicle.

An underestimated spare part

Uneven road surfaces, fully laden vehicles, cornering and potholes – everyday occurrences which demand top performance from shock absorbers. Which is why shock absorbers, like brake components, are classed as safety-related spare parts. Shock absorber wear does however tend to be a gradual process, depending on driving style and road conditions. The problem: The average driver becomes accustomed to the steadily deteriorating car handling behaviour and only really notices it in emergency situations, when braking sharply for example – and even then no-one tends to think of the shock absorbers. This makes it all the more important to regularly check the shock absorbers, which are quite rightly considered to be one of the most heavily stressed parts of the suspension.

Consequences of defective shock absorbers:
  • Longer braking distances
  • Poor road holding on uneven surfaces
  • Loss of ABS/ESP action
  • Greater likelihood of aquaplaning
  • Abnormal or uneven tyre wear
  • Unstable road holding particularly when cornering
Worn or defective shock absorbers should always be replaced at both wheels on an axle. Replacement of an individual shock absorber will aggravate the difference in performance and in turn lead to unstable handling.
