At the beginning of this year HAUK & SASKO has been awarded, as one of the project participants at Global Port Forum Awards 2017 in Dubai, the prize for Port / Terminal Software / Operating system of The Year 2017 – QPMC’s Gabbro Terminal – Operational Management System (OMS). David Sasko, Managing Director of HAUK &

SASKO Ingenieurgesellschaft mbH, accepted the award in Dubai as a representative for all the employees involved in the project.

The aim of the Global Port Forum is to recognize the most valuable contribution of organizations and professionals in the various sectors of the ports and terminals of the industry and to recognize their achievements in different categories accordingly.

Qatar Primary Material Co. (QPMC) has signed an engineering procurement and construction (EPC) contract with FLSmidth and Six Construct for the design and engineering of the Gabbro Terminal Expansion Project in Mesaieed, Qatar. Within this project, FLSmidth Wadgassen GmbH commissioned HAUK & SASKO to deliver the operations management system (OMS) for the bulk terminal and stockyard.

The OMS covers vessel unloading visualization as well as material pickup automation. The implementation is based on HAUK &SASKO´s MBS material flow management system and its modules MBS Ports and Vessels, MBS Stockyard Management and MBS LVA Truck Logistics Automation.

HAUK & SASKO`s Head of Development, Oliver Baar, explains: The system covers all operational aspects at the Gabbro Terminal. Using HAUK & SASKO`s operations management system enables QPMC to achieve an optimized vessel unloading turn- around, an enhanced usage of their stockyard space and an efficient handling of the material logistics. This supports QPMC to realize the targeted capacity of 30 million tons of material per year.

MBS Ports and Vessels module handles both the planning of incoming material transports in advance and the vessel unloading to the stockyard at the port.

MBS Stockyard Management provides stockyard operators with tangible benefits through stacker automation, increased efficiency and more transparency.

MBS LVA Truck Logistics Automation supports the material pickup by trucks through automation of the processes at the entry and exit gates.

An internet portal allows the customers of QPMC remote access in order to manage their inventories and truck pickups.

HAUK & SASKO´s integrated solution covers all processes from the planning stage to the invoicing. This allows QPMC to unite the technical and commercial aspects of material handling at the terminal.

MBS integrates information from various sources – including terminal control systems for data on crane and stockyard equipment positions, stockpile levels, conveyor belt scales and truck weighbridges. This comprehensive approach provides increased productivity and greater transparency of data.

The commissioning of QPMC was in December 2016.
