GROB presents the new G900-series to a wide audience for the first time at the in-house exhibition

GROB in-house exhibition

(PresseBox) (Mindelheim, )
At this year's GROB Open House, visitors can once again expect a number of sensations, particularly in the field of machining technology. One particular highlight is the presentation of the G900-series at a trade fair for the first time. GROB is thus expanding its portfolio for machining mega and giga castings as well as extruded profiles.

GROB will be presenting one of its largest machines from the F-series family at the 2024 in-house exhibition, the G720F. The machine is a strong example of the differentiation of the GROB machine portfolio. With its 5-axis A/B interference circle of 1,500 mm and its high stability, the G720F is a typical representative of the crossover series for all important components, from the frame structure component, the subframe to the battery housing. The A/B axis combination in the table guarantees free chip fall and excellent heat dissipation, which is particularly suitable for MQL machining. The axis arrangement of the F-series corresponds to GROB's proven machine concept. Modular and standardized machine components guarantee high product quality, dynamics and short chip-to-chip times. Visitors to the in-house exhibition will be able to see the machining dynamics of the G720F live for themselves when the machine machines an EV subframe in aerial combat.

Big, bigger, GROB - the G900-series from GROB

With the new G900-platform, GROB is moving into new workpiece dimensions and thus into new performance dimensions in the automotive and aerospace industries. It is important to GROB to develop solutions that are needed on the market. For this reason, the main focus in the development of the new machine platform was to set a benchmark. And the feedback speaks for itself: since its market launch in summer 2023, GROB has already won numerous orders for the G900-series from all over the world, from Japan to Europe and the USA. As a result, GROB has succeeded in establishing itself with these machines in the mechanical processing of giga-castings (front and rear end) and battery systems.

G920F4: The perfect combination for the complete machining of battery housings

If you look at the machines in detail, you can quickly see what was important in the development of the individual machines. The G920X and G920F4 were developed specifically for machining battery housings and their components in order to cover the entire machining process. When developing the machines, the main focus was on the size of the work area combined with the smallest possible footprint. Parts in the automotive industry have increased enormously in size in recent years. The logical consequence: the machines must also become larger. GROB has achieved this with the new series.

The G920F4 has a choice of two spindles arranged side by side or one above the other and a table on which workpieces with a length of up to 2,900 mm can be machined. As the F4 in the machine name suggests, this machine concept is based on four axes of movement. The machine also places great emphasis on the shortest possible chip-to-chip times and high dynamics with simultaneous stability. The basis for this is the optimized and precisely coordinated axis drives. Customers can also benefit from the high production flexibility of the G920F4, which impresses with its modular design, convertibility and the possibility of interlinking and automating the machine. Like the G920X, the G920F4 is also characterized by a particularly rigid construction and a machine design that is perfectly adapted to MQL machining with an optimal work area design and large chip hopper.

Processing extruded profiles - child's play with the G920X

Machines for processing extruded profiles must have certain features and characteristics in order to work efficiently and precisely. GROB has taken all the necessary features of such a machine into account when developing the G920X. For example, the G920X has two spindles and bridges arranged one above the other. This allows two workpieces to be machined precisely and efficiently. The machine can process workpieces over 2.5 meters in length. Since extruded profiles are usually made of metal alloys such as aluminum and are exposed to high loads during processing, the machines must be robust and stable to ensure reliable processing. The particularly rigid construction of the G920X meets this requirement with ease thanks to its machine design. The developers have also attached great importance to the flexibility and adaptability of the machine. This means that customers can machine a wide range of profile geometries on the G920X.

GROB is ready for the vehicle construction of the future - with the G920F5

The G900-platform is completed by the G920F5. The F5 in the machine name stands for 5-axis machining. The G920F5 is designed for the machining of front and rear bodies - also known as "giga castings" or "underbodies" in automotive parlance - and is already in demand worldwide as a solution for the vehicle construction of the future. Its robust construction ensures reliable machining under demanding conditions, while its flexible configuration enables a wide range of machining options for the most diverse component designs. This machine is designed not only for the current challenges of the automotive industry, but also for those of the future. With its automation options and adaptability to the changing requirements of lightweight vehicle construction, resource conservation and continuous improvement of vehicle safety, the G920F5 is the ideal foundation for future-oriented production.

Experience GROB machining technology in 3D

In the machining technology area, visitors can not only experience the G720F and the G900-series up close, but also view a wide variety of projects and machines virtually on a 3D LED wall and get an impression of the possibilities of GROB machining technology.
