Australian copper explorer American West (ASX: AW1, FRA: R84) has once again impressively confirmed the effectiveness of geophysics as an exploration tool at its Storm copper project in Nunavut on Somerset Island with deep diamond drilling at the Cyclone Deeps target.
As predicted by the airborne Mobile Magneto Telluric (MMT) survey data, drill hole ST25-02 - also the first diamond drill hole of the current season - intersected an approximately 47 metre thick horizon of sediment-hosted copper mineralization at depths between 284m-319m and 368m-380m. The geologists had specifically targeted the Allen Bay host horizon within the Central Graben. The style of mineralization and stratigraphic position of ST25-02 is visually very similar to the mineralization observed at the margins of the Cyclone deposit. Based on the similarities, geologists suspect that the new discovery may be a down-dip continuation of the mineralization already found at the Cyclone target.
