Completion of the MIX Marszewo Project Construction – one of the first cable pooling solutions in Poland with a grid connection capacity of 100 MW

GOLDBECK SOLAR Polska has commissioned the MIX Marszewo system in Poland, combining the existing Marszewo Wind Farm with a new photovoltaic plant. The project was developed for investor TAURON Zielona Energia.

GOLDBECK SOLAR Polska has completed another large-scale renewable energy project in Poland. The modern MIX Marszewo power system has been commissioned, integrating the existing Marszewo Wind Farm with the newly constructed Postomino Photovoltaic Power Plant. The project investor is TAURON Zielona Energia.

The project was implemented using a cable pooling technology, utilizing the existing grid connection infrastructure of the wind farm to send the power of the entire system. This is one of the first solutions of this type in Poland implemented at the 110 kV voltage level.

As part of the investment, the following scope was delivered, among others:
  • construction of a photovoltaic power plant with an installed capacity of 90 MW,
  • a double-section 20 kV medium-voltage switchgear with 20 fields,
  • two 50 MVA 110/20 kV power transformers with 110 kV transformer fields,
  • a 110 kV line field,
  • a reactive power compensation system based on two STATCOM units, each rated at 11 MVAr,
  • over 7 km of a 110 kV underground cable line, connected in a cable pooling configuration to the existing overhead export line of the Marszewo Wind Farm.
The entire system has been integrated with a modern control and monitoring system that coordinates the operation of the photovoltaic and wind installations and controls the output of both plants. The system is installed in the newly constructed photovoltaic plant substation (GPO). When the wind farm does not utilize its full grid connection capacity, the photovoltaic installation is automatically brought online to maximize the use of the available connection capacity. During windless periods, the PV plant can operate at a maximum capacity of approximately 64 MW.

Project implementation schedule:

Construction works started in spring 2024. Construction of the photovoltaic power plant and the 110 kV line was completed in mid-2025. In August 2025, following coordination with the grid operator and completion of all required formalities, the farm was energized, testing and the commissioning process were initiated, and the administrative decisions necessary to complete the construction were obtained. The farm was put into operation by carrying out final tests, synchronizing it with the existing wind farm and implementing a joint control system for both installations. The final handover of the farm to TAURON Zielona Energia took place in December 2025.

The successful implementation of the MIX Marszewo project was made possible thanks to very good cooperation between the investor, the contractor, subcontractors, design teams, and HSE services. The common goal was to deliver the project safely, on schedule, and within the assumed budget.

“Cable pooling is not only an advanced technical solution but also a practical response to the challenges faced by the power system. It enables more efficient use of existing infrastructure, accelerates the development of renewable energy sources, and provides a more stable generation profile, which is crucial from the perspective of Poland’s energy security” says Tobias Schüßler, COO of the GOLDBECK SOLAR Group.

The MIX Marszewo project confirms that Poland has the competencies, experience, and technical background necessary to deliver complex investments in the field of high-voltage infrastructure and renewable energy sources, including further cable pooling projects.
