Communication and positioning solution for smart logistics processes from Fraunhofer IIS

Hall 2, Stand 2B05

(PresseBox) (Erlangen, )
Hall 2, Stand 2B05 / At LogiMAT 2026, the Fraunhofer Institute for Integrated Circuits IIS will be presenting practical location and identification technologies for objects as well as energy-efficient location solutions based on low power area networks (LPWAN) for applications such as smart container tracking in logistics.

Inductive positioning of RFID transponders in logistics applications InOrt

With InOrt, Fraunhofer IIS is developing a solution for the simultaneous identification and localization of standard RFID transponders. These are particularly suitable in industrial environments. The aim is to provide location and identification data in such a way that material flows and, for example, logistical transfers, storage and retrieval can be digitally mapped more reliably than before.

The basis is magnetic field-based localization - for many objects. The technology can be scaled as required depending on the application. This automates the local detection of object movements and positions: Manual steps such as repeated scanning are reduced. At the same time, the significantly more detailed database improves operational control and process analysis by closing digitization gaps.

mioty®: communication and localization for smart logistics

For applications with long ranges of up to several kilometers and many end devices, Fraunhofer IIS will be presenting solutions based on mioty®, an LPWAN (Low Power Wide Area Network) technology for robust and very energy-efficient data transmission. mioty® reliably transmits sensor and status data even in demanding wireless environments while supporting long battery life of up to 10 years. Fraunhofer IIS will also be presenting localization solutions in mioty® networks based on field strength and propagation time measurements using a mioty infrastructure. In logistics scenarios, they are used to locate distributed, mobile assets. The focus here is on tracking load carriers or containers.

These solutions enable, among other things
  • seamless tracking of containers and contents in large areas and across locations
  • automated process steps, even at critical transfer points
  • Significantly improved data quality for inventory and circulation management
