TSN steht für „Time Sensitve Networks“ und ist eine Initiative der IEEE (Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers) mit dem Ziel, Standard-Ethernet um Eigenschaften wie Echtzeitfähigkeit zu erweitern. Das Lemgoer Exponat wurde in Kooperation mit dem Unternehmen NXP, EBV und Phoenix Contact konzipiert und zeigt, wie eine Anwendung mit der Anforderung an funktionale Sicherheit (Safety) von Ethernet TSN-Technologie profitiert. Fraunhofer-Projektleiter Carsten Pieper bestätigt: "Ethernet TSN ist eine vielversprechende Technologie für die Fabrikkommunikation der Zukunft, mit der neue Anwendungen möglich mbtvpp".
