AI optimizes intralogistical material flows

LogiMAT 2026 in Stuttgart

The methods and applications of artificial intelligence (AI) are the foundation for efficient processes in intralogistics. Exhibitors from around the world representing all segments of the industry are coming to LogiMAT 2026 to showcase innovations that integrate AI applications and methods. AI-based solutions generate maximum added value by taking a holistic view of data throughout every step of business processes.

The methods and applications of AI have become indispensable to those investing in innovations for digital transformation. But a recent study by the consulting firm IDC and tech giant SAS finds that many companies lack the necessary IT infrastructure to effectively leverage the benefits of AI, and that the resulting lack of security and control mechanisms erodes trust in the technology. The international exhibitors at LogiMAT 2026 are presenting options for changing this. “Automation and AI have long since evolved from mere trends into critical factors for success,” notes LogiMAT Exhibition Director Michael Ruchty from Munich-based event organizer EUROEXPO Messe- und Kongress-GmbH. “AI, particularly when used in tandem with other technologies, is the basis for efficient workflows. LogiMAT exhibitors across all segments of the industry are presenting their latest products featuring innovations designed to provide end-to-end AI support and optimize every domain and process in intralogistics, offering maximum added value through integrated AI applications and methods.”

First and foremost, of course, this applies to the software innovations to be featured in Hall 4 of the Messe Stuttgart convention center. WMS provider Logistics Reply (Hall 4, Booth 4B52) is presenting “GaliLEA Dynamic Intelligence,” which is designed to accelerate the implementation of AI-based processes, reduce technological dependencies, and make automation more broadly viable. The new technology simplifies the development and deployment of AI agents, offering a visual interface to configure agents that read data from different sources, connect to external systems, detect anomalies, and support operational decisions in real time. Inform (Hall 4, Booth D61) is also showcasing AI applications for better decision-making along the value chain with its new AI-based forecasting service, Demand AI. The cloud-based solution generates continuous forecasts for products with a sales history, provides reliable initial demand forecasts for new items, and can be integrated into existing planning processes without the need for complex software implementation. The results are transferred to existing ERP and planning systems and are intended to enable faster, informed decisions in procurement and supply chain planning. PSI Software (Hall 4, Booth 4D41) is coming to Stuttgart to showcase its latest products and solutions, including the latest generation of the PSIwms AI platform, which it unveiled at last year’s event. The Batch AI module integrated into the standard PSIwms is designed to optimize single-stage and two-stage picking strategies with rule-based and AI-supported batch formation – reducing walking distances, boosting picking performance, and lowering process costs while harnessing AI to deliver context-specific information directly into the workflow.

AI applications for intralogistical transports

Beyond automating demand and sales forecasts and streamlining order fulfillment, new AI applications are also further optimizing intralogistical planning and control using transportation management systems (TMS). Brabender Solutions from Switzerland (Hall 4, Booth 4F15) presents its TMS featuring AI-supported feedback and document extraction for internal processes with the integrated document management system DocKI. Flexus (Hall 4, Booth 4B31) has integrated AI and digital twin technology into the transportation management of forklifts, tugger trains, and autonomous vehicles with its FlexGuide4, resulting in greater efficiency, safety, and flexibility in warehouse processes. Proactive process management simulates workflows to identify and avoid bottlenecks before they happen. The cloud-based route planning software from Pass Logistics Solutions (Hall 4, Booth D53) uses AI to connect planners, drivers, and end customers – and even calculates routes specifically for the efficient deployment of electric vehicles.

AI has now also found its way into the direct support of operational processes, including material handling technology. Element Logic (Hall 1, Booth 1H21) is presenting eOperator, which uses AI-based, self-learning software to integrate fully automated, robotic piece picking into AutoStore solutions. Advasolutions (Hall 3, Booth 3C79) is promoting the self-learning warehouse with adaptive end-to-end automation of intralogistics, using new AI-based functions such as quality control and route planning to seamlessly connect and manage inbound logistics, storage, picking, and shipping. The AI-based interaction of autonomous shuttles, an adaptable shelving system, and freely configurable advaShelves are designed to enable the efficient transport, storage, and dynamic movement of items of various sizes, shapes, and packaging types. Knapp (Hall 3, Booth 3B01/3B03 & Hall 8, Booth 8A45) is presenting Knapp Brain, which it hails as the “first AI platform for smart value chains” – bundling all AI-based solutions, from forecasting to optimized order fulfillment to last mile, for a holistic view of data and workflows that generates maximum added value throughout every step of business processes. The KiSoft Solution software suite forms the backbone for operational control, analysis, and integration, covering all levels of intralogistics by connecting warehousing, transport, and delivery in real time and dynamically calculating delivery time windows, optimizing routes, and weighing factors such as load volume, traffic conditions, and customer preferences.

Low-threshold use of AI in intralogistics

AI algorithms are also shaping many of the new solutions in the AIDC segment. Keyence Deutschland (Hall 1, Booth 1C14) is bringing along a stationary code reader for automated sorting and picking systems, featuring an integrated AI algorithm that can identify even the most difficult codes in complex scenarios. Imago Technologies (Hall 2, Booth 2A30) is coming to LogiMAT with practical demonstrations of low-threshold applications of AI in intralogistics to complement traditional control mechanisms. This includes AI-based vision solutions that detect deviations from target values in intralogistics processes at an early stage, before they lead to downtime or quality problems. The combination of continuous imaging and smart AI analytics allows for the predictive evaluation of processes while supporting maintenance, optimization, and the analysis of root causes. Another area of application is the AI-supported inspection of containers and unit load devices.

In the field of industrial trucks and automated guided vehicles (AGVs), AI applications support transport planning and management as well as various safety and analysis functions. Continua Systems (Hall 8, Booth 8D81) is presenting the data-driven Automation Insights analytics platform for highly automated AGV environments. AI-supported analytics that identify patterns and trends in the data and predict potential failures early on are designed to increase visibility in automated intralogistics and reduce unplanned downtime.

“The examples cited here show that AI is not rocket science,” concludes LogiMAT Exhibition Director Ruchty. “It merely optimizes intralogistical material flows and processes at various levels and often embodies this year’s theme of ‘Passion for Details.’ The details in AI-based processes often make a small but significant difference by providing the end-to-end review and analysis of data and supporting efficient workflows – unlocking competitive advantages and delivering maximum added value.”
