GreenGo Energy hires solar veteran Stefan Degener to lead expansion into Germany

(PresseBox) (Ratingen, )
Leading Danish solar project developer GreenGo Energy aims to leverage experience from large-scale projects in Northern Europe and the Americas to better drive the energy transition in Europe. To achieve the ambitious goals, Stefan Degener - previously with the world's leading solar technology company First Solar - will be appointed as the new head of Germany.

Stefan Degener will be responsible for establishing and expanding GreenGo Energy's 360° Development Service Platform in Europe as well as managing the activities of GreenGo Energy Germany. He leaves his position as Managing Director/VP EMEA Region at First Solar GmbH, where he held a leading position in the European market for more than a decade. As part of this role, he was involved in the entire solar value chain, including technology sales, development, M&A and project financing. Prior to entering the renewable energy sector, Stefan spent nearly 20 years in commercial banking, project finance and financial markets.

Karsten Nielsen, CEO of GreenGo Energy, expects Degener to provide a holistic view of the complex development of solar projects in Germany: "It is great for us to gain a profile of Stefan's caliber and strengthen our management team with this strategic position in Europe and Germany. With his many years of experience and extensive knowledge of the PV market and project development, as well as his extensive network to partners and customers, he will certainly make an important contribution. GreenGo is specifically driving the energy transition with subsidy-free projects on a multi-MW scale, and we now want to apply the knowledge gained in Denmark to the German and other European markets. If this is to succeed, we need people like Stefan to bring investors and landowners together to show a path towards high energy security, more prosperity and more sustainability with scalable solutions."

Degener himself is looking forward to starting at GreenGo Energy’s Düsseldorf offices: "The PV industry is growing rapidly both nationally and globally, even in the wake of the Ukraine war, but we need to find more efficient ways to implement large-scale projects. The technologies and the interest of long-term investors are there. We are seeing increasing public acceptance and community support for the development of large-scale solar farms, primarily on conversion sites and low-value farmland and grassland.  What we need now for a successful energy transition are scalable solutions and also significantly accelerated planning and permitting processes that will help us get out of the slow implementation phase and effectively move us closer to our goal of Net Zero."
