From Stack to Strategy How an Internship at classix Opened the Door to the Software World. Kevin L. on His Further Training at classix Software GmbH

Anyone who only knows software development from classrooms or lecture halls is missing out on the best parts. Kevin L., a career changer with a business background, wanted to find out firsthand.

(PresseBox) (Hamburg, )
His student internship at classix brought him directly into contact with practical digitalization. In this interview, Kevin shares how structured onboarding, real projects, and an innovative tech stack not only advanced him professionally but also reoriented his career path. classix.de specializes in ERP software for SMEs and modern business software for mechanical engineering.

Kevin, how did you come up with the idea of doing your internship specifically at classix?

A former intern had recommended classix Software GmbH to me - he was enthusiastic about the supportive environment. My school instructor also knew the company and emphasized its high standards and intensive support. That sounded exactly like the challenge I was looking for  and - as someone with a partially completed business administration degree, I was particularly drawn to how classix intelligently combines business processes and software development.

What was particularly important to you during your internship?

It was important to me that I wasn't just a "bystander," but could actively get involved. I wanted to learn, but also contribute. This worked perfectly at classix: I could take on tasks independently but always had help when I got stuck. The colleagues were open, and the working atmosphere was very pleasant.

How did your start at classix go?

I started directly with the InstantView tutorial - a central component of the platform. After that, I was allowed to implement my own example project, a small library app, with which I could understand the interaction of modules, logic, and the user interface. That was super instructive because it takes you through the entire process - even if in the real classix Software Factory, you usually don't start "from scratch" anymore.

What were your specific tasks during the internship?

Among other things, I took care of revising about 1,800 help pages and used automatic generations to create missing pages. I was also able to adapt modules from the AppsWarehouse to new standards, optimize query statements, and work with the internal test framework. It was a real insight into daily software maintenance especially with regard to long-term maintainability and quality.

Which technologies or methods did you learn about for the first time?

InstantView was definitely new to me - a stack-based programming language that was initially unfamiliar but offers enormous advantages. Especially in combination with CyberEnterprise's object-oriented model, which maps processes as they happen in reality not in table structures. I also learned how to carry out my own project from the task definition to acceptance in a realistic setting.

How does working at classix differ from university?

At university, everything is often built anew, often without real practical relevance. At Classix, you rely on a highly abstract enterprise model that already offers proven business objects. You don't have to torture yourself with SQL or database details  instead, you work directly with business logic. This is a real productivity booster, especially for complex applications like ERP in mechanical engineering or warehouse management systems like HESTIA.

Were there any challenges?

Yes - getting started with InstantView was demanding. I also reached my limits with my own project. But with the help of extensive documentation, consultation with the instructors, and some patience, I always made progress. And that's exactly what helped me tremendously.

What advice do you have for others interested in an internship at classix?

You shouldn't be afraid of new ways of thinking. The tech stack isn't mainstream but it's very well thought out. Those who are willing to engage with it will be rewarded with real know-how, great colleagues, and genuine project responsibility.

And finally: Did the internship influence your career path?

Definitely. I realized that software development is more than just a technical craft for me. It's about solving real problems. The combination of business and technology at classix fits me perfectly and I'm delighted that I can now become a long-term part of the team.

Conclusion:

With a structured internship program, innovative tools like InstantView, a clear focus on medium-sized companies in mechanical engineering, and an open learning culture, classix - The Software Factory offers more than just career insights. It opens doors for talents who truly want to shape software.

Kevin successfully completed a six-month internship at classix in 2025.
