It’s an (R)Evolution: International CFRP-experts dis-cussed "Industry 4.0 for Composites" in detail at the CFK-Valley Stade Convention

320 participants, coming from 21 Nations, attended the conference on the topic of CFRP and lightweight constructions on 16 – 17 June in Stade (Germany)

The annual expert forum on CFRP opened their doors for round 320 attendees, coming from all over the word, e.g. Japan, Korea, Brazil, USA, China and several European Countries like Netherlands, Austria and Belgium.

Dr. Gunnar Merz, CEO and Chair of the Board of the CFK Valley e.V. welcomed the audience and underlined the importance of the international collaboration now and in the future. To strengthen the international activities, the CFK-Valley Stade Convention presented itself this year (for the very first time) wih one partner country - Belgium. In collaboration with Agoria and sirris, Belgium presented a joint booth at the accompanying exhibiton and their own session at the lecture program. With 1,700 member companies, Agoria is the largest sectoral employers’ federation in Belgium.

The major topic of this years convention was focussed on „Industry 4.0 for Composites“ and became introduced by the Keynotes:
- „Horizon 2020 – Purpose, Structure and Funding Opportunities“ – given by Eva Brockhaus, National Contact Point for Materials (for EU-Program "Horizon 2020") at the Project Management Agency Projektträger Jülich (Jülich) and
- „Industry 4.0 – Vision vs. Practical Solutions“ – held by Prof. Dr.-Ing. Berend Denkena, Head of The Institute of Production, Engineering and Machine Tools - Leibniz Universität Hannover (Hanover).

The professional program with more than 20 lectures was clustered into thematic sessions:
- Agile Production
- Efficient Production
- Belgium Projects (Session Partner Country)
- Self-Enhancing Composite Processes

Top notch speakers (from e.g. Fill Gesellschaft m.b.H., KCTECH - Korea Institute of Carbon Convergence Technology, Evonik Industries AG, German Aerospace Center (DLR), Siemens Industry Software NV, AIRBUS) presented their latest developments in the technologies, processes and construction methods of composite lightweight construction both in research and in practice. The program is also online: www.cfk-convention.com. In addition to all given lectures is an online proceeding with speakers‘ contributions available Interested parties send a request with „CFK-Convention Proceedings“ to info@cfk-convention.com.

Also the ccompanying exhibiton was strongly attended. 35 exhibitors, e.g. AIRTECH (Luxembourg), AIRBUS Operations GmbH (Germany), Com&Sens bvba (Belgium), Fill Gesellschaft m.b.H. (Austria), DLR e.V. (Germany) and many more were presenting their products and services along the entire value-added chain of CFRP.

The „Company Forum“, a platform for companies and institutes to present their portfolios, was also a valuable attribute for the participants and was provided for the first time at the Convention. Furthermore all visitors had the the chance to meet potential business partners in pre-arranged meetings at the „Match & Meet“. This Matchmaking Event is the new meeting point to establish technology co-operations, partnerships for R&D and commercial agreements.

One Highlight at the end of the first Convention-Day was the award ceremony of the "CFK-Valley Innovation Award". The Award for developments with a particularly high degree of innovation in CFRP lightweight construction was donated by CFK Valley e.V. and the Hanseatic City of Stade and was endowed with 7,500 EUR. The winner of this years award is Evonik Industries AG for its R&D project: „Composites 2.0 – Thermoreversible polymer networks for composite application.“ Dr. Guido Streukens, New Business Development Evonik Industries AG, accepted the award on his behalf.

A follow up of the 9th International CFK-Valley Stade Convention 2015 will be published online contemporary. Interested partners, speakers and exhibitors note 15 - 16 June 2016 for the 10th expert conference.

About CFK-Valley Stade Convention:
CFK-Valley Stade Convention is one of the most innovative expert conferences and showcases on the topic of composite lightweight constructions. Almost 400 participants – international experts from the composites industry – annually participate in this special event a global marketplace for CFRP technologies.
The CFK-Valley Stade Convention took place for the first time in 2007. The number of participants and exhibitors has greatly increased since then. In spite of inflation-related economic stagnation (in 2008/2009) the carbon fiber market was able to record constant growth rates. Energy efficiency, cost reduction, and low carbon emissions are major topics that concern nearly all branches of industry worldwide.

Top notch speakers will be presenting their latest developments in the technologies, processes and construction methods of composite lightweight construction both in research and in practice. The lectures will be given in English and will be clustered into thematic sessions.
