The volunteers worked together to help restore and protect the Chesapeake Bay by removing litter and debris from its rivers, streams, and surrounding areas.
The annual event, coordinated by the Chesapeake Bay Foundation, draws together individuals from all walks of life to give back to their community and preserve the natural beauty of one of Virginia’s most treasured landmarks, the Chesapeake Bay. The Bay is the largest working estuary in the United States and the third largest in the world.
Casey Wurm, Busch Senior EHS Specialist, was the Zone Captain that day and organized the Busch Cares volunteers. “It was great to see people come together locally to help support the environment,” said Casey Wurm. “Sixty percent of Virginia is in the Chesapeake Bay watershed. Pollution travels to wherever water flows. Pollutants end up contaminating our streams, rivers, and eventually the Chesapeake Bay. I’m glad we could prevent this trash from adding to the problem.”
All in all, almost 45 kilograms of trash was collected and properly disposed of that day by the team. “We are proud to be a part of this annual community event working alongside elected officials, veterans, church and school groups, and other area businesses to make a difference,” said Jake Young, Busch Cares Program Manager.
