From the Specification to AUTOSAR software tests in Windows

(PresseBox) (Munich, )
With the new releases of MESSINA 3.1 and CTE XL Professional 2.1, testing of ECU functions reaches new dimensions. CTE XL Professional now offers the comfortable possibility of requirements tracing and the easy assignment of weightings, besides the systematic specification and generation of test cases. MESSINA, the platform for SiL and HiL tests, can now be run in Windows, as well. In addition, MESSINA offers a unique AUTOSAR test-RTE for virtual integration based on Artop. Customers benefit from shorter test cycle times and a higher test result quality at the same time.

The powerful and proven AUTOSAR-compliant test platform MESSINA enables the consistent testing of ECU software from SiL to HiL. ECU functions can be verified with MESSINA in an early development stage and throughout the entire development process. The operation and the user interface are the same in all development stages, ensuring a consistent and intuitive application for testers.

Test execution, once again, becomes significantly easier with the new version of MESSINA. The addition of the Windows Target now also facilitates model execution and functional testing in Windows. The new runtime system can easily be installed and used in SiL environments. An outstanding feature is the ability to run test cases created in Windows directly in the HiL system under real-time conditions. To further improve test execution, virtual integration of MATLAB/Simulink and AUTOSAR SWCs is possible during the development process. Moreover, AUTOSAR SWCs can now be executed in Windows, as well.

Another new feature is the AUTOSAR test-RTE. For this purpose, a powerful RTE code generator has been integrated based on Artop. It is thus possible to automatically generate the RTE and to execute "runnables" in Windows on the basis of the AR.XML design description. All AUTOSAR port types are accessible from the test case perspective, making it possible to perform AUTOSAR tests without any target hardware and with significantly shorter turn-around times and improved test quality.

Systematic test specification, automatic test execution and high test coverage

MESSINA provides linking to the CTE XL Professional for further time savings and quality improvements during the test execution. Test cases are systematically modeled with the CTE XL Professional based on the intuitive classification tree method and thus test coverage improved. An important enhancement in version 2.1 is the ability to assign weightings. Test cases are automatically generated in prioritized order using this feature. Afterwards, the resulting test suite can be further optimized by specifying the desired test coverage and by adjusting the degree of coverage.

CTE XL Professional now supports the tester in managing test coverage, test focus and test effort in addition to already existing features for creating combinatory and dependency rules. A unique enhancement is the strongly improved interface to the requirement tool DOORS. Due to the requirement tracing feature, each specification change in DOORS is automatically detected and transferred to the test cases to be reviewed.

"We are continuously using our long-standing experience gained in many development and test projects to enhance and optimize our software in order to significantly simplify and reduce the configuration effort for our customers. AUTOSAR developers, in particular, benefit from the opportunity to conveniently test in Windows already during the development phase," says Juergen Meyer, Head of Automotive Division at Berner & Mattner. "We are confident that AUTOSAR tests will be noticeably improved in quality and, once again, be significantly accelerated by using the new versions of MESSINA and CTE XL Professional".
