Dear Ladies and Gentlemen,

From analogue to digital, from multi-channel to individual content choice: Since AEPOC's foundation in 1997 the European television markets have seen important achievements in the fight against audio-visual piracy – ranging from EU legislation and law enforcement to successful partnerships and industry co-operation on a world-wide scale.

Looking at the continuously evolving environment of today's information society, the phenomenon of illegal access to pay services will require all stakeholders of the digital value chain to develop an end-to-end framework – in order to meet the security challenge of the content everywhere reality, enabling and securing a sustainable growth of the digital landscape.

On the occasion of AEPOC's 10th anniversary, the European Association for the Protection of Encrypted Works and Services will hold its 4th Anti-Piracy Symposium on January 29th in Geneva – exactly where AEPOC was founded 10 years ago at the headquarters of the European Broadcasting Union.

AEPOC welcomes top-ranging EU representatives and delegates discussing recent developments and future needs with a special focus on AEPOC's core field of activity – the European legislative framework to combat illicit access to audio-visual media. Speakers will further include industry experts and panellists from AEPOC's 35 companies strong membership basis – representing the leading digital television and telecommunication players across Europe – providing an information platform about the latest trends and arising challenges in the battle against piracy from the industry standpoint.

The previous Symposiums took place in Vicenza, Amsterdam and London and attracted contributors and participants from all European nations and beyond, analysing and discussing the rise of IP technologies for content distribution as a new challenge for the technological, legal and political protection of intellectual property. In his keynote address, AEPOC President Jean Grenier reminded in London that piracy not only puts growth of the media and telecom industries at stake: "The protection of intellectual property is the key to future prosperity, but also to cultural diversity and democratic plurality."

The Symposium in Geneva will be moderated by Nick Snow, Chief Editor of Advanced-Television. The free of charge conference is tailored to professionals and press from the media industries and shall provide an in-depth discussion forum for all stakeholders of the digital value chain – highlighting the efforts necessary to enable a secure and sustainable scenario for the future of the European market field.

The symposium will be followed by the celebration of AEPOC's 10th anniversary within a cocktail reception and the official announcements of the latest decisions of the Association's Board of Directors.

AEPOC would be delighted to welcome you on Monday 29th January in Geneva.

Yours faithfully,

Davide Rossi
Secretary General AEPOC
