Ziggo's innovative network is built on the ADVA FSP 3000, which provides Ziggo a scalable, cost-effective platform for delivering voice, video and Internet services to its almost 8 million customers. In addition, the exacting demands of enterprise customers required Ziggo to deploy a network that provides business Ethernet services and reliable data center connectivity across multiple protocols with little delay.
The solution converges the disparate legacy networks of three former telecom operators, Casema, Essent Kabelcom and Multikabel, onto a standardized, integrated 10Gbit/s backbone. The converged platform brings a new level of efficiency and reliability not possible since the 2007 merger that resulted in the formation of Ziggo.
"In a competitive market like the Netherlands, telecom operators like us must invest in next-generation, service-oriented, cost-effective network infrastructure to accommodate increasing bandwidth demand and deliver a high-quality user experience," said Paul Hendriks, CTO of Ziggo. "We have, therefore, recognized the combined strengths of supplier ADVA Optical Networking and integrator Arcadiz Telecom and selected the FSP 3000 solution, enabling us to decrease our operational workload and concentrate on more customer-oriented objectives."
"Today's market is dynamic and requires service providers to respond quickly," stated Fabrice Jean, vice president of sales for western Europe and Latin America for ADVA Optical Networking. "With a flexible, end-to-end network in place, Ziggo can now rush new services to market for both residences and businesses, and offer state-of-the-art services across a broad geographic footprint. We are proud to deliver this complete solution that will enable Ziggo to compete effectively in a challenging marketplace."
Systems integrator Arcadiz Telecom, which designed the complete solution, partnered with ADVA Optical Networking for the deployment of the network and will provide ongoing maintenance and support of Ziggo's network moving forward.
"Innovative telecom operators like Ziggo can leverage their IP infrastructure, serving their residential and business customers, to provide low-delay SAN connectivity solutions to their large enterprise customers. As both services are supported from a single certified platform, it allows Ziggo to win these customers with the appropriate tools and the right local expertise," said Jos Vermeylen, Arcadiz's managing director.
