DEBATAPE freeze - Cool solutions for secure packaging

It's smart to be cool: the know-how for getting closure

(PresseBox) (Bruchsal, )
.
Today's blog intro is one that is usually rather irritating:

We've come up with a cool solution! Specifically: for places and situations where it's too cold for the usual security measures. Sometimes, getting stuck is exactly what you need.

OK, maybe you're wondering what this is all about…

Let's take a step back. When police detectives in cold countries or regions are working with forensic evidence (… perhaps for cold cases…) they need to transport that evidence securely to a lab, just like everywhere else. In other words, they need tamper-proof security bags. However, when it gets cold, the adhesive used to keep the evidence bag securely closed doesn't always stick to its job. How do we know this? Well, one of our customers is a Norwegian company that provides security products for health care facilities, the police force and CVIT companies.

Firmly sealed, even when it's icy cold

The same issue arises in other contexts. For example, food producers need to keep reference samples, which are frozen after being packed into bags. These likewise need to stay properly sealed in the freezer.

"It's not really a huge leap to make use of 'hot glue', more formally known as hot-melt adhesive," says Dr Oliver Tröber, who heads up R&D at DEBATIN.

Close-up of a blue DEBATAPE freeze security tape, suitable for deep-freeze applications down to -40° C. The tape displays the inscription "DEBASAFE" at regular intervals, along with pictograms indicating correct usage. A yellow snowflake symbol and a green speech bubble label reading "Deep-freeze resistant security tape for up to -40° C" highlight the product's resistance to cold.

"Our production team are already past masters at handling film for our bags in every conceivable form – folding, sealing, layering, stamping. Now they're also using a range of technologies to apply a variety of hot glues in and on the bags. This is what will keep DEBATIN competitive, and set us apart from the more conventional products battling it out on the market."

Cool expertise

This new challenge has inspired Tröber and his team to come up with a novel technique, combining several adhesive strips into a single seal for these security bags, and Tröber is delighted with the results: "This isn't something just anyone can do". With DEBATIN's unique system, the standard adhesive strip takes its place alongside frost-resistant adhesive, creating a universal seal that is guaranteed to stay sealed… at temperatures from -40° C all the way to +70° C!

The team have turned this innovative system into a new product, DEBATAPE freeze, which can be used in refrigerated warehouses for document pouches, or directly on the packaging of frozen reference samples for food products such as fish.

Did you know: Sealing strips for challenging conditions play a key role in our transport bag production. Whatever our customers need – all-round protection, products that can withstand cold or heat, resistance to solvents or tamper protection – we have a "Safe. Perfect. Packed." solution.

If you've got any questions about these cool products, we'll welcome them warmly!
