Der Bundesverband Metall (BVM) in Essen vertritt die Interessen der deutschen Metallhandwerksbetriebe in 325 Innungen und 13 Landesverbänden. Als Fachverband unterhält der BVM die Bereiche Technik, Berufsbildung, WiSo und Öffentlichkeitsarbeit. Schwerpunkt in der Technik ist die Normung. Um den erforderlichen Informationsvorsprung für seine Betriebe zu haben, entsendet der Bundesverband Metall eigene Experten in die relevanten nationalen und internationalen Normungsgremien. So wird sichergestellt, dass die Interessen des Metallhandwerks auf europäischer Ebene eine gewichtige Stimme haben. Metallhandwerk in Deutschland, das sind rund 33.000 Unternehmen, die 20.000 Lehrlinge ausbilden, 478.000 Mitarbeiter beschäftigen und über 65 Mrd. Euro Umsatz erzielen.
