Die Idee, Softwarehersteller mit einer technisch ausgereiften Lösung zum Schutz vor Raubkopien zu versorgen, führte im Januar 1989 zur Entwicklung der Softwareschutz- und Lizenzmanagement-Lösung Wibu-Key und zur Gründung der Wibu-Systems GbR durch Oliver Winzenried und Marcellus Buchheit. Das Unternehmen agiert inzwischen international und gehört auf dem Softwareschutzmarkt zur Weltspitze. Die Zentrale in Karlsruhe, die Büros in Seattle und China oder die derzeit 19 Vertriebspartner sind Anlaufstellen bei Fragen rund um das Thema Software- und Dokumentenschutz.
