Der Fachkräftemangel in Deutschland spiegelt sich auch im VDI-Innovationsklima-Index wieder: Der fiel im ersten Quartal 2008 leicht von 27 auf 25 Punkte. VDI-Direktor Dr. Willi Fuchs warnt angesichts von derzeit rund 30.000 offenen Stellen monatlich: „Viele Unternehmen können ihre freien Stellen nicht oder nur mit Verzögerung besetzen - der Mangel an technischen Fachkräften lähmt zunehmend den Standort Deutschland.“ 40 Prozent der befragten Ingenieure stufen die Verfügbarkeit von Fachkräften in ihrer Branche als schlecht oder sehr schlecht ein.
