„In puncto Leseförderung sind Kindergärten, Grundschulen und Elternhäuser die wichtigsten Orte“, betont Ludwig Eckinger, Bundesvorsitzender des Verbands Bildung und Erziehung (VBE), anlässlich des Welttages des Buches am 23. April. „Lesen ist die Basiskompetenz für den Einstieg in kulturelle Teilhabe im weitesten Sinne und Leseförderung ist deshalb ein erstrangiger Auftrag unserer demokratischen Gesellschaft“, so Eckinger. „Die Lust aufs Lesen und die Vermittlung von Lesekompetenz müssen ganz ganz wichtig genommen werden.“ Er würdigt in dem Zusammenhang, „an immer mehr Grundschulen gibt es phantasievolle und nachhaltige Leseprojekte, um jedes Kind zu begeistern und Eltern anzusprechen“. PISA 2000 sei eine Initialzündung gewesen.
