Die ungewöhnlichen Eigenschaften von Wasser in Nanoröhren

Physiker der Universität Wien veröffentlichen Ergebnisse in PNAS

Ein Team um den Physiker Christoph Dellago entwickelte ein Computermodell, um die Eigenschaften von Wassermolekülen in Nanoröhren zu untersuchen. Dabei fanden die Wissenschafter heraus, dass die Wassermoleküle sehr lange ununterbrochene Ketten bilden, die vollständig geordnet sind. So fungieren sie als gute Leiter für Protonen. Die Ergebnisse wurden jüngst im Fachmagazin PNAS (Proceedings of the National Academy of Sciences) veröffentlicht.

In flüssigem Wasser herrschen chaotische Zustände: Wassermoleküle wirbeln einzeln umher, stoßen aneinander und bilden mit anderen Wassermolekülen kurz instabile Brücken. Gänzlich anders verhalten sich die Wassermoleküle in Nanoröhren. Hier bilden sie sehr lange, durchgängige und geordnete Ketten, das heißt jedes Molekül
