Spin-Off-Unternehmen der Saar-Uni unterstützt Multimedia-Architektur für Linux Desktop KDE

Erste Ergebnisse werden auf dem LinuxTag Anfang Mai in Wiesbaden präsentiert

Die Wiedergabe von Audio- und Video-Dateien, aber auch Internet-Telefonie und Video-Konferenzen werden heute vielfach am heimischen PC ausgeführt. Für die Desktop-Umgebung KDE, die besonders unter Linux weit verbreitet ist, werden diese Aufgaben in der kommenden Version von einer grundlegend überarbeiteten Multimedia-Architektur, genannt Phonon, übernommen. Neben verschiedenen anderen Technologien wird dabei eine neuartige Software zur Vernetzung von Multimedia-Geräten zum Einsatz kommen. Die sogenannte „Netzwerk-Integrierte Multimedia Middleware (NMM)" wird hierbei einerseits grundlegende Multimedia-Dienste für KDE zur Verfügung stellen. Durch die Integration der NMM-Technologie in KDE werden aber auch ganz neue Anwendungsszenarien ermöglicht, wie z.B. die gleichzeitige Audio- oder Video-Wiedergabe auf allen im
