Bioinformatiker simulieren erfolgreich Anlagerungsprozess zweier Proteine

Saarbrücker Bioinformatiker haben zum ersten Mal den spontanen Anlagerungsprozess zweier Proteine im molekularen Bereich am Computer simuliert. Für diese Arbeit wurden Mazen Ahmad und Wei Gu aus der Arbeitsgruppe von Professor Dr. Volkhard Helms geehrt. Die Fachzeitschrift Angewandte Chemie hat den Artikel kürzlich unter die besten 10 Prozent der eingereichten Arbeiten eingestuft; die 3-D-Grafik erhielt den Status eines Innen-Titelbildes. Die Simulation solcher molekularer Interaktionen kann beispielsweise zum Verständnis der Entstehung von Krebs beitragen.

Die Bioinformatik arbeitet eng mit den Lebenswissenschaften Biologie, Medizin und Pharmazie zusammen. Die dort in sehr großer Zahl anfallenden Daten tragen Bioinformatiker zusammen und simulieren auf
