Zurückgehende Wahlbeteiligungen, Vertrauensschwund in die Parteien, sinkende Mitgliederzahlen - diese Symptome werden allgemein als Zeichen einer Krise der Parteiendemokratie gewertet. In jedem Fall scheint die Beziehung zwischen Wählern und Parteien gestört zu sein. An diese Diagnose schließen sich einige Fragen an: Welche Funktion erfüllen Parteien heute noch? Sind sie ein notwendiges oder ein lästiges Element der parlamentarischen Demokratie? Brauchen wir mehr direkte Demokratie (Volksabstimmungen), um die Parteien in die Schranken zu verweisen? Diesen Fragen geht Politikwissenschaftler Professor Lothar Probst vom Institut für Interkulturelle und Internationale Studien (InIIS) im Fachbereich Sozialwissenschaften der Universität Bremen am 14.
