Zum Auftakt der gamescom begrüßte Ubisoft CEO und Co-Founder Yves Guillemot Bundeskanzlerin Angela Merkel auf der Ubisoft-Bühne. Im Rahmen des offiziellen Eröffnungsrundgangs informierte sich Frau Merkel in Begleitung von Ministerpräsident des Landes Nordrhein-Westfalen Armin Laschet, der Kölner Oberbürgermeisterin Henriette Reker sowie dem Staatssekretär Sean Casey vom gamescom-Partnerland Kanada über ausgestellte Spiele-Highlights und den Games-Standort Deutschland. Im Fokus des Gesprächs standen Blockbuster-Produktionen wie Assassin’s Creed Origins sowie das heute angekündigte Anno 1800, was von dem deutschen Entwicklerstudio Ubisoft Blue Byte in Mainz erstellt wird.
