Next year, May 2010 to be exact, marks the 50th anniversary of the invention of the first working laser by Theodore H. Maiman. Since the American scientist first ignited the flash of light, laser technology has become pervasive in daily life. Lasers join and separate, lasers heal, lasers transmit information. Its list of applications goes on and on. The "tool of light" has thus become a key technology.
