Erstes U-Boot der Klasse 209PN für die Portugiesische Marine getauft

Am 15. Juli 2008 wurde in Kiel bei der Howaldtswerke-Deutsche Werft GmbH - einem Unternehmen von ThyssenKrupp Marine Systems - das erste von zwei U-Booten der Klasse 209PN für die Portugiesische Marine auf den Namen N.R.P. TRIDENTE getauft. Taufpatin ist Frau Dr. Alda Taborda, Gattin des portugiesischen Parlamentspräsidenten Dr. Jaime Gama.

Das neue Boot hat einen kombinierten dieselelektrischen und Brennstoffzellen-Antrieb. Es ist mit modernster Sensorik und einem integrierten Waffeneinsatz- und Führungssystem ausgerüstet und deshalb für seine zukünftigen Aufklärungs- und Überwachungsaufgaben optimiert.

Der Auftrag über die beiden Boote wurde 2004 zwischen der portugiesischen Regierung und dem German Submarine Consortium (GSC) sblktvkwatg.
