The SCO Group (Nasdaq: SCOX), Eigentümer der UNIX Urheberrechte, hat die Lizenzierung seiner UNIX-Technologien inklusive der Patente und des Quellcodes an die Microsoft Corporation bekannt gegeben. Mit der Lizenzierung will das Unternehmen aus Redmond sicherstellen, dass seine Produkte und Lösungen keine Urheberrechte verletzen sowie mit UNIX und UNIX-Diensten kompatibel sind.

„Viele Unternehmen der IT-Industrie respektieren das geistige Eigentum an Software“, kommentiert Chris Sontag, Senior Vice President und General Manager der Intellectual Property Division der SCO Group. „Mit der Lizenzierung unter-streicht Microsoft die immense Bedeutung, die Kompatibilität seiner Software-lösungen mit UNIX zu garantieren. Kunden können dadurch UNIX- und Windows-Lösungen einfacher implementieren.“
