Am 4. Dezember 2006 endet die Abgabefrist für den von der Europäischen Union vergebenen "The 2007 European ICT Prize", oftmals als "europäischer Nobelpreis" für die Branche der Informationstechnologie (IT) und Telekommunikation (TK) bezeichnet. Das Preisgeld für die "besten IT-/TK-Ideen, die Marktfähigkeit erlangt haben", wird auf 700.000 Euro beziffert. Die öffentliche "Nobelpreis-Zeremonie" zur Preisvergabe mit EU-Kommissarin Viviane Reding findet am 16. März 2007 auf der weltweit größten IT- und TK-Messe CeBIT statt (11.00 Uhr, Congress Center auf dem Messegelände).

Um den europäischen Spitzenpreis bewerben kann sich jedes Unternehmen, jede Universität oder Hochschule und jede sonstige Einrichtung und Organisation mit Sitz in
