TE Connectivity (TE), a world leader in connectivity and sensors, announced its participation at the FIA Formula E Berlin ePrix on June 10 and 11, 2017 as the lead partner of Andretti Technologies, the technology incubation and advanced engineering business of Andretti Autosport.

“Our partnership with Andretti Technologies provides a unique platform to develop and test new technologies in a racing environment. This will help power the future of transportation and industry applications,” said Judith Henzel, TE’s resident engineer with Andretti Technologies. “I am proud to support the MS Amlin Andretti team and group of engineers in their quest to be the world’s top electric race team. Inside every Andretti race car, and throughout the racing community, you’ll find TE connectors, sensors and cables. In fact, there are more than 100 TE products in the Andretti Formula E race car alone.”

Judith Henzel works alongside the MS Amlin Andretti team and is one of only a few female engineers that participate in Formula E. Prior to assuming this role, Judith was a project manager for TE’s Automotive business unit in Bensheim, Germany, where she oversaw global technical infotainment projects for original equipment manufacturers (OEMs), working primarily with cable assemblies and connectors. Judith graduated with a degree in mechanical engineering from the University of Applied Sciences in Wiesbaden, Germany, after an internship with Lufthansa Technique piqued her interest in airport operations and automotive engineering.

As the lead partner of Andretti Technologies, TE has a rotational engineer program that puts one of TE’s automotive engineers inside the Andretti Autosport shop in Indianapolis, Indiana (USA). The resident engineer is responsible for providing advanced engineering expertise – finding new ways to improve the Andretti team’s performance and co-creating and testing new TE products in the harsh environment of race cars.

“Beyond helping electric cars reach new levels of speed, our partnership with Andretti Technologies helps support research and development around the electric vehicle in general,” said Henzel. “Our proven experience in automotive connectivity and high-voltage electricity is actively driving e-mobility solutions and the supporting infrastructure to address the industry’s big challenges. TE is committed to sustainable, clean-energy innovations from the race track to the road, and everywhere we live, work, play and learn.”

The advanced technology arm of racing enterprise Andretti Autosport, Andretti Technologies was founded in early 2015 with the primary focus of developing dynamic and sustainable clean-energy solutions. Building on the foundation of racing heritage and intense competition, the Michael Andretti-led outfit is dedicated to using the experiences of yesterday to help shape a better tomorrow. Andretti Technologies strives to meet the future transportation needs of an ever evolving and more complex world. The FIA Formula E Championship is the world’s first fully-electric single-seater racing series, competing on the streets in the backdrop of some of the most iconic cities - including Hong Kong, Marrakesh, Buenos Aires, Monaco, Paris, Montreal and New York. The championship represents a vision for the future of the motor industry, serving as a platform to showcase the latest innovations in electric vehicle technology and alternative energy solutions. Future seasons will see the regulations open up further allowing manufacturers to focus on the development of motor and battery components, which in turn will filter down to everyday contemporary electric road vehicles.
