Die IT-Panne der Lufthansa vor wenigen Monaten, bei dem durch den Ausfall der Mainframe-Buchungssoftware fast einen Tag lang der gesamte Flugverkehr lahmgelegt war, steht beispielhaft für die Abhängigkeit von der Bestandssoftware. Täglich werden 30 Milliarden Transaktionen auf 45.000 Großrechnern über Cobol abgewickelt: Zahlungsverkehr, Industrie, Logistik, Verkehr, Verwaltung ...
