Unabhängig voneinander haben Wissenschaftler der Uni Nijmegen und deutsche Forscher aus dem Umfeld des CCC (Chaos Computer Club) den Verschlüsselungs- Algorithmus Crypto 1 des RFID-Systems Mifare Classic geknackt. Ist die Funktionsweise des Chips und damit dessen Erzeugung geheimer Daten erst einmal bekannt, ist es ohne großen Aufwand möglich, z.B. Karten zu kopieren. Betroffen sind weltweit über 1 Milliarde Mifare-Classic-Karten, deren Sicherheit gegen Angriffe von außen zukünftig nicht mehr gewährleistet werden kann.
