Siemens receives first major wind power order from Australia

Siemens secures its first major order for a wind farm in Australia, to be located 140 kilometers north of Adelaide. The purchaser is the New Zealand power provider TrustPower headquartered in Tauranga. Siemens is to supply 90 gearless wind turbines, each with a rating of three megawatts (MW), for the Snowtown II project and will also provide service for the project. When it comes online in 2014, the wind power plant's total capacity of 270 MW will be sufficient to supply nearly 180,000 Australian households with ecofriendly electricity.
