For the city on the water – Electrical engineering from Siemens for Cable Liner Shuttle in Venice
The Cable Liner Shuttle – a joint development of DCC Doppelmayr Cable Car GmbH & Co. and Siemens – is a fully automatic, cable-hauled public rapid transit system. In Venice, Doppelmayr Italia, a 100% subsidiary of the Doppelmayr-Garaventa Group, is building an 830 meter-long shuttle line between the artificial island of Tronchetto and the Piazzale Roma. This will create a fast and convenient connection between the multi-storey car parks and the new service and office centers being erected on Tronchetto, on the one hand, and the old part of Venice, on the other.
Two trains, each with a capacity of 200 people, will commute between the stations at a speed of just under 30 kilometers per hour. The Cable Liner Shuttle will be able to carry 3,200 passengers per hour and direction. Located in Innsbruck, Austria, the IS business unit for cable-hauled "Automatic People Mover" systems is supplying the drives, the vehicle and station equipment and the automatic train control system. It is also responsible for engineering and commissioning.
