For the third time, RWE is represented on the Carbon Disclosure Leadership Index of the Carbon Disclosure Project (CDP). This index lists 50 of the world's leading 500 companies who have played a pioneer role in climate protection. The companies are assessed according to the quality of their reporting on the climate protection issue and their overall strategy in this area.

"Being included once more in the index is a great achievement for us" said Alwin Fitting, RWE board member responsible for corporate responsibility. "This shows that we deal transparently with climate protection and is also proof that our strategy in this area is convincing."

International institutional investors have joined forces in the Carbon Disclosure Project to create transparency for financial markets on questions involving climate change and the corresponding company positions. The CDP has the largest data base in the world on how companies approach the topic of CO2 emissions. The data is collected from questionnaires sent to companies on an annual basis. The index that results from this provides institutional investors in particular with a guideline on which companies have a responsible attitude towards climate protection. An assessment is also made of the extent to which their business dealings address the effects of climate change and how this is reflected in their reporting.

"For RWE this distinction is an incentive to continue with our energy to lead policy in relation to climate protection", added Fitting. "Over the next few years almost 40 percent of our growth and replacement investment will flow into CO2 free or low-emission CO2 plant technologies.

On the one hand in renewable energies and high efficiency gas and steam plants, on the other hand in nuclear energy”, said the RWE board member. We aim to reduce our CO2 emissions markedly by 2015. An important prerequisite for this is a clear-cut strategy and transparent communications.
