Ging es bei WiMAX zunächst um die Ablösung breitbandiger Kabelnetze wie DSL, sind mit dem neuen Standard IEEE 802.16e-2005 nun auch mobile Anwendungen realisierbar. Herstellern von WiMAX-Equipment bietet Rohde & Schwarz für den High-End-Signalanalysator R&S FSQ mit der neuen Option R&S FSQ-K93 eine voll integrierte Lösung für die Messung an WiMAX-OFDMA-Signalen. Somit unterstützt das Gerät die Standards IEEE 802.16-2004 OFDM, IEEE 802.16e-2005 OFDMA und den WiMAX-Ableger WiBro.

Zur Analyse der WiMAX-OFDMA-Signale von Basisstationen ist eine Downlink-Map nötig. Diese Karte erfasst Parameter wie Anzahl der Nutzer, Zuordnung zu Unterkanälen, Modulationsarten, Zahl der aktiven Unterkanäle sowie Art und Zahl der Permutationszonen.
