Artist Intercom Installed in MDR Studio Magdeburg
The system consists of an Artist 128 node connected to an Artist 64 node via fiber to form a single decentralized matrix. "In addition to the impressive concept of the Artist platform with its simple networking of multiple mainframes over fiber, the ability to connect control panels using coax cabling was another important factor in our decision. This enables us to continue to use our existing cable structure," said Robert Hänsel, Technical Manager of television with MCS Saxony-Anhalt.
For the central control room and outside broadcasting MDR chose Riedel's top-of-the-line 1000 series control panels. The LED characters of the 1000 series are readable even in direct sunlight. For standard work stations around 50 Artist 2100 series panels are used. "The 2100 series gives us the possibility, despite limited budgets, to get the full functionality of Riedel's Artist 1000 series panels. We especially wanted to keep the option of using a second audio channel for program audio or commentators," said Hänsel.
For the connection of remote studios three two-channel Connect Duo ISDN interfaces and a Connect IP interface are used. The latter will be used in the future to enable connections to the studios in Halle via IP.
The system was delivered at the beginning of May and began live productions just a few weeks later without any difficulties.
