In Deutschland sind immunstimulierende Präparate auf der Basis von Bakterienpräparationen des Bacillus Calmette-Guérin (BCG) Mykobakterienstamms zur Behandlung von Harnblasenkarzinomen zugelassen.

Das Paul-Ehrlich-Institut, Bundesinstitut für Impfstoffe und biomedizinische Arzneimittel, weist darauf hin, dass die in den Apotheken erhältlichen BCG-Produkte nicht zur Behandlung oder Vorbeugung von COVID-19 zugelassen sind.
