Bei der Serienproduktion von Fahrzeugen sind zahlreiche Fertigungsschritte automatisiert und erfolgen mit modernen Herstellungsverfahren, die auf innovativen Technologien basieren. Unabdingbar sind dabei präzise Sensoren. Sie ermöglichen die hochgenaue Roboterpositionierung, beispielsweise bei der Cockpit-Montage.

Die Fahrzeugkarosserien fahren im Takt an die jeweilige Stelle der Montagelinie. Dabei muss die Karosserie exakt an der vorgesehenen Bearbeitungsposition stoppen. Nur dadurch wird ein reibungsloser Einbau über den Roboter möglich, der das Cockpit zwischen der A- und der B-Säule in das Fahrzeug führen muss.
