Lehnkering Takes Over Logistics for World's Largest Steel Producer

Duisburg, (PresseBox) - Lehnkering Steel Transport and Services GmbH and ArcelorMittal Eisenhüttenstadt GmbH have signed an agreement to cover future cooperation today.

Lehnkering will take over the warehouse and logistics services for the steel producer in Eisenhüttenstadt from 1 January 2009 onwards. The agreement has a fixed term of five years. The services that have been ordered cover approx. two million tonnes of materials per annum. Among other things, Lehnkering will provide the following services: transporting steel from the production site, in-house logistics, stock-keeping, transferring goods on to trucks and goods wagons and preparing freight papers.

"ArcelorMittal is the world's largest steel producer and Lehnkering is the market leader for chemicals and steel logistics - the two fit together like a glove," says Lehnkering CEO, Cees van Gent. "By establishing a new base in Eisenhüttenstadt, the local economy can benefit from all the other advantages of the broad Lehnkering portfolio."

In the third quarter of 2008 the company won the tender procedure organised by AreclorMittal for awarding a new contract for logistics services. All 104 employees from the previous service provider including the 14 trainees are being taken over.

Lehnkering is one of the leading logistics providers in Central Europe with turnover of approx. € 650 million and more than 2,700 employees.
