The Belgian music market
In 2011, 20 million physical and online albums and singles (units) were sold for an amount of EUR 144.96 million (BEA). According to a study conducted by Music Metric (Sep 2012) Belgium is number 20 on the list of countries with the highest pirating rates. New offers like legal streaming helps to transform illegal downloaders into legal consumers. Spotify offers music fans a legal environment with over 18 million tracks. It is easier than piracy - and benefits music fans and the music industry alike.
Olivier Maeterlinck, Director of Belgium Entertainment Association: "New and innovative services such as streaming services are part of the future of the Belgian music industry. Spotify partnering with KPN Group Belgium shows that the legal offer is continuing to grow and meet the new needs of consumers."
