"Biathlon is a very interesting and popular spectator sport both in Finland and internationally. Our Finnish plant is located in Joensuu and we're proud to see a local athlete succeed. As a positive person and an outstanding athlete, Kaisa Mäkäräinen fits in with our corporate image very well," says Marketing Manager Marja-Liisa Bijmolt.
Last season, Mäkäräinen won a bronze medal at the world championships in the mass start event and placed fourth overall in the World Cup. In the previous season, she earned gold in the pursuit and silver in the sprint at the world championships in addition to winning the overall World Cup title. Mäkäräinen has finished on the World Cup podium 24 times during her career, which is an incredible achievement.
"At this point I'm preparing for the upcoming season. I really enjoy practicing and competing a lot," says Kaisa.
Mäkäräinen has spent the spring and summer training at camps in Finland and elsewhere in Europe under the guidance of her coach Jarmo Punkkinen. The competition season kicks off in Östersund, Sweden in November.
The John Deere logo will be visible on Mäkäräinen's left shoulder. Her first appearance with John Deere will take place at the FinnMetko forest machinery exhibition in Jämsä, Finland on August 31, 2012. The cooperation will continue later with customer events and personnel gatherings in Joensuu and Tampere.
"Stakeholder cooperation, media visibility, and a long-term relationship are important factors when selecting a partner. John Deere Forestry Oy's sponsorship partners provide us all with great experiences and excitement as well as the chance to celebrate being Finnish!" continues Bijmolt.
