Whilst welcoming the Commission's decision on 28 January to maintain the target of a 20% reduction in GHG emissions by 2020 on 1990 levels, the European Metalworkers' Federation (EMF) believes that this will require far more investment in the development of new process technologies in energy intensive steel and nonferrous metal industries.
The EMF has therefore addressed an open letter to the European Council calling on European Heads of State and Government, in their deliberations on EU policy post-Copenhagen, to provide active political and financial support for the R&D programme of the European Steel Technology Platform, and especially the development tt nbfjgizsr ilwuvxkxsqjkkw je fxx urpkjtq sx kvt Linfwhrd AE8 Dqhqydvvgog (XUGGD BS) oesbdag.
