Der wachsenden Nachfrage nach kleinen und kompakten CPU Boards und Systemen geschuldet, werden M.2 Solid State Drives (SSD) auch im industriellen Umfeld vermehrt eingesetzt. Denn der kleinste Formfaktor M.2 (80x22x4mm) ist einfach einzubauen und besonders platzsparend. Ähnlich wie beim mSATA Formfaktor möchten Anwender kritische Embedded Anwendungen vor möglichen Datenverlust absichern. Eine unterbrechungsfreie Stromversorgung (USV) ist meist dann die Lösung, wenn es keine Kosten- oder Platzbeschränkungen gibt.
