Unterschiedliche Straßenbeläge, glatte Fahrbahnen und schnelle Autos stellen hohe Herausforderung an Autofahrer und Fahrzeug. Um optimale Verkehrssicherheit zu gewährleisten, sind in modernen Fahrzeugen komplexe Fahrassistenzsysteme im Einsatz. Wichtigstes Bauteil ist der Raddrehzahlsensor.

Die Raddrehzahl ist Voraussetzung für die Funktion der unterstützenden Sicherheitssysteme, wie Antiblockiersystem (ABS), elektronisches Stabilisierungsprogramm (ESP) und Antriebsschlupfregelung (ASR). Der ABS-Sensor sendet pro Rad ein Signal an das Steuergerät. Hier wird die Information verarbeitet und die Regelphasen für einen notwendigen Bremsvorgang berechnet. Ein defekter Sensor kann zum Abschalten des ABS-System führen, sodass beispielsweise die Bremswirkung nur noch vom konventionellen Zweikreissystem ausgelöst wird.
