Eurobind 600 and Eurobind 1300 - highly automated with exceptionally short make-ready times for hot-melt and polyurethane adhesives

(PresseBox) (Heidelberg, ) Details Eurobind 600 and Eurobind 1300 - highly automated with exceptionally short make-ready times for hot-melt and polyurethane adhesives

Heidelberger Druckmaschinen AG (Heidelberg) has now added the new Eurobind 600 and Eurobind 1300 perfect binders to its product portfolio. Both machines boast the familiar Heidelberg design, thereby ensuring even better ergonomics. For example, data is entered using a graphic touchscreen. All parameters for the block thickness of the product that is to be bound are set automatically, thereby cutting make-ready times to an absolute minimum. A new milling station and a new polyurethane application system help deliver long-lasting, high-quality end products

This new series of perfect binders has been tailor-made for the requirements of print shops and postpress specialists. The Eurobind 600 is a perfect binder for small and midsize businesses that process jobs with runs ranging from 1 up to an average of 5,000 books. The Eurobind 1300 has been designed for industrial-scale businesses that handle runs of 1,000 to 10,000 books per job. The series is rounded off by the Eurobind 4000 for average runs of between 5,000 and 20,000 adhesive bindings per job.

The figures in the product names stand for the hourly cycle rates of the machines. Depending on the configuration, typical applications include high-quality products such as annual reports, catalogs, magazines, operating instructions, calendars, notebooks, image brochures, picture books, paperbacks, and travel literature.

Exceptional quality and flexibility To ensure the quality and durability of the end product, it is important that the spine is prepared and that the binding process most appropriate for the application is used. The Eurobind 600 and Eurobind 1300 are available with either hot-melt or polyurethane application technology.

Both machines are equipped with a spine preparation station that is unique in their class. This consists of a newly developed combination tool with exchangeable dust cutters, height-adjustable roughening teeth, height-adjustable notching teeth and a ring brush. The counterblade is equipped with adjustable and easily exchangeable individual inserts. The milling housing has also been newly designed and now extracts milling dust much more efficiently, leaving less dirt in the machine.

Hot-melt adhesive is applied to the book block via two application rollers. In the Eurobind 600, the adhesive is smoothed using a height-adjustable glue blade. In the Eurobind 1300, this function is performed by a counter-rotating height-adjustable and separately heated spinner roller. This also enables the glue length for spine and side gluing to be precisely controlled, whereas in the Eurobind 600 this only applies to the spine. If no side gluing is required, this unit is simply disengaged.

The optional hot-melt premelter for the spine and side glue tank helps boost the productivity of the perfect binders even further. The advantages of the hot-melt process include its low adhesive costs and ease of use, which make it ideal for short-life perfect bound products.

The new polyurethane application system in both perfect binders uses a nozzle. The special premelter enables the system to work independently of viscosity, temperature, and pressure. The nozzle supports the application of an extremely even, low-viscosity film of adhesive, thereby applying an equal amount of adhesive to each book. The polyurethane application system is simple to operate and both the premelter and nozzle are easy to clean. Further features include the efficient use of adhesive and an accurate start-stop action. Production can continue uninterrupted during the melting process of a new polyurethane candle. Polyurethane technology facilitates the simple and cost-effective production of high-quality brochures and books because it helps ensure great strength and therefore durability.

The Eurobind 600 uses a horizontal cover feeder, while the Eurobind 1300 uses a vertical cover feeder that can be continuously fed throughout production. Both machines come with residual pile control and can be supplied with a double and missing sheet sensor.
