Beating the downturn with modules
The latest edition of the Heidelberg customer magazine (issue 266) highlights how adeptly many companies are using the "modules" offered by Heidelberger Druckmaschinen AG (Heidelberg) for precisely this purpose. For example, Heidelberg News readers can find out why the new Speedmaster SM 52 at Swiss print shop Knöpfli Druck looks completely different from the one at Clasen Satz & Druck in Düsseldorf, the city where drupa is held. The enormous flexibility that the Speedmaster SM 52 now offers users is demonstrated in another article about the individual configuration options offered by this press.
Heidelberg News uses the example of German print shops Metzgerdruck and Druckwerk Süd to show that the modular principle is also of particular benefit to users of the Prinect workflow system. While Metzgerdruck has achieved a return on investment of 1,300 percent by opting for full Prinect integration in one fell swoop, Druckwerk Süd prefers a more gradual approach to its process integration. The same is true of Trinanes Grafica in Buenos Aires. This former prepress service provider is now taking a relatively relaxed approach to the economic uncertainties in Argentina thanks to the sustainable modernization of its production operations.
Like Trinanes, Igor Shpak also uses the Speedmaster CD 74, but he is already eyeing up larger formats. Religion is important to the Managing Director of ADEF in Ukraine but, in addition to high-quality Bibles, he is also printing a growing number of lifestyle magazines in ever larger runs. That is why he is interested in the Speedmaster SM 102, the latest generation of which even incorporates a large number of modules from the high-performance XL 105 series.
Last but not least, Heidelberg News also provides a few tips on FSC certification, an explanation of the difference between "urgent" and "important" from time management expert Lothar Seiwert, and a few recipes combined with printing "ingredients".
